Ritual Essential Prenatal, a new vegan prenatal supplement

Ritual Vegan Prenatal Vitamin Supplement

Ritual sent me a bottle of their new Ritual Essential Prenatal – a vegan prenatal supplement in capsule form that launched today. I’m just going to tell you right off the bat that this prenatal uses folate, not folic acid. Because, I know that’s one of the first questions people have about a prenatal. But, I’ll get into the ingredients more below. If you try Ritual through a link (like this!) in this article, Double Check Vegan will get a little commission which helps pay for hosting.

Ritual Essential Prenatal is the Los-Angeles based company’s second product. Like their first product, Ritual Essential, which launched in 2016, this prenatal supplement is vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, allergen-free, made in the USA, and contains no unnecessary ingredients like filler or food coloring.

But where Ritual really stands out in my opinion is the company’s transparency about its ingredients. The packaging that comes with Ritual Essential Prenatal lists each supplement along with its source and location. But Ritual’s website goes much further, citing the numerous scientific studies that informed each ingredient decision, as well as listing the ingredients’ respective manufacturers. And Ritual maintains direct relationships with each of its suppliers.

Less importantly, Ritual is known for their slick, Instagram-able packaging. I, however, am not known for taking slick, Instagram-able photos, so here are some casual phone pics of what I received.

The cap wasn’t too hard to twist, and I was able to break the intact safety seal by jamming my thumb through. Once open, I sniffed the bottle and was pleasantly surprised by a lemon scent. Turns out there is a lemon tab inside the bottle which you can remove if you don’t like.

The capsules themselves are unique looking. Each capsule actually has a smaller capsule inside, floating in liquid. Why? Presumably to keep the dry supplements in the inner capsule separate from the liquid ones.

Ritual Essential Prenatal Specs

Dose: Two capsules ONCE per day, with or without food. That’s pretty convenient.

Supplements inside:
Folate 1665 mg DFE
Choline 55mg
Biotion 300mg
Iron 18mg
Vitamin B12 8mcg
Magnesium 30mg
Omega-3 300mg
Vitamin D3 50mcg
Iodine 150 mcg
Vitamin K2 90 mcg
Vitamin E 7mg

The pamphlet that comes with the bottle has a pretty chart listing the ingredients, amounts, descriptions, and even place of origin, not to mention al little picture.
For example, the Vitamin K2 is listed as coming from Oslo, Norway, while the Vitamin B12 comes from Bridgeport, Connecticut. I like how specific they are!

Other capsule ingredients:
Stomach acid resistant outer vegan capsule (hypromellose, glean gum), inner vegan capsule (hypromellose), silica, cellulose, l-leucine.

I’ve been taking Garden of Life MyKind Organics prenatal multi gummies, but I’m going to switch to Ritual Essential Prenatal and see how I feel. Check out this new prenatal for yourself HERE.
