Urea

UPDATED ON February 7th, 2019

Urea is probably vegan. It appears on many lists of animal ingredients for vegans to watch out for which is why I included it here, but it is almost always produced synthetically today. It can be derived from animal urine but synthetic Urea is manufactured so widely that if you see “Urea” on an ingredient list, it was probably produced from synthetic ammonia and carbon dioxide. Urea is used in some skin creams, moisturizers, hair conditioners, dish soaps, and tooth whitening products, as well as in explosives, agricultural feed, and many other uses. Please contact the manufacturer if you are concerned about the source of Urea.
