Propolis Extract

Propolis Extract is not vegan. It is derived from tree sap gathered by bees to use as a sealant in their beehives. It is used in toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, throat sprays, supplements, and more.

Worker bees fly around and collect resins from leaf buds and tree saps and carry them back to the hive. Other bees unload the resin from the bees who collected it. The bees then mix the collected resins with wax, honey, and enzymes from their stomachs to create propolis.

Beekeepers place screens with cracks on top to trick bees into using their labor to seal the cracks, then the screens are removed.
