E150 refers to plain caramel which is usually totally vegan. It is produced by heating carbohydrates, mostly corn, but also beet sugar, cane sugar, wheat, or potatoes. If cane sugar is used, it is of note that cane sugar is often processed through bone black (char from burned animal bones). When you see an “E-number” like E150, it refers to an ingredient that has been approved by the European Union for use as a food additive.
